In 2009, Larry Smith's brother, Miles, tragically took his own life. Not long after this devastating loss, Larry took the initiative to create a group he named "Males with a Plan" in memory of his brother. Driven by a deep desire to establish a mental and physical safe haven for young men, Larry aimed to provide a space where they could freely express themselves. Fueled by this commitment, he developed a strategic prevention model with the ultimate goal of saving lives.
Our mission at Males with a Plan is to empower lives through a multifaceted approach. We focus on Peer-to-Peer discussions, Community Engagement, and Economic and Employment Sustainability. This holistic strategy aims to prevent antisocial behavior and combat the alarming rise in suicidality documented in recent years across cities. Join us in making a positive impact on the lives of young men, fostering resilience, and building a community that stands together against these challenges.
Economic & Employment
This component is to help guys understand how to obtain employment. Each member has a mentor who will assist with creating a work portfolio. The mentor would also focus on how to dress professionally, create cover letters and resumes, develop job search skills and complete mock interviews successfully. Males With A Plan will collaborate with other agencies to provide assistance when time is unfeasible. In the employment training component, G.E.D, tutoring and other training will be offered.
Personal Development
Peer to Peer is when a group of guys get together to discuss multiple things pertaining to manhood. These discussions have therapeutic approaches which encourage guys to speak about multiple issues amongst each other. For instance, father’s or mother’s absence, developing inner and outer strength, grieving, building higher self-esteem, managing anger along with conflict resolution, reducing stress, dealing with diversity, parenting, maintaining a healthy relationship with significant other.
Community Outreach
The third component is get members to understand their significant of contributing to the world. This component demonstrates unity and it gives members a visual effect what can happen in the community when it is structured. Guys will volunteer to amplify the mission of the organization’s brand.
